Condemned or Connected?

Romans 8:1-2 (NIV) - Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you[a] free from the law of sin and death.

I was recently looking out one of my windows and noticed that the bushes that were so beautiful this past summer, now look dead and useless. This made me think about the times when I’m reminded of my past and I begin to question whether or not I am useful to God. Have you ever been in this place? A place where you no longer felt connected to God, but somehow felt condemned and useless?

When I find myself in that place, God quickly reminds me that I didn’t choose Him. On the contrary, He chose me before the foundation of the world and continues to choose me each day. This reminder helps me know that I am connected to God through Christ and that I am no longer condemned. I am connected to THE Source of life that sets me free from sin and death and EVERY thought that would try to lead me to believe that I am useless and have no purpose. I am not condemned, I am CONNECTED!!!

Thinking back to the bush in my yard, I know that come Spring, it will begin to bloom again because it is still connected to its source of life. Unless I cut the bush down, it will bloom again and bear fruit. Likewise, as long as you remain in Christ and Christ remains in you, you will bloom again and bear fruit (John 15:4). It’s when you allow condemnation to disconnect you from The Source that you feel useless, unworthy, uncalled, and unchosen. God wants to remind you that He chose YOU! He still chooses YOU! So, instead of feeling condemned, allow God to set you free, stay connected to The Source of life, healing, and purpose and you will bloom again and again and, again, and you will bear much fruit! Declare right now, “I am not condemned, I am CONNECTED!!”

Isiah 43:19 (NIV) – See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. With the New Year comes, for some, new hopes, new dreams, new goals and new opportunities. For others, the New Year brings new reminders of another year of disappointments, dead dreams, missed goals, and failed opportunities. God reminds us that He is doing a “NEW” thing!! I’m willing to bet that if you look deep enough you can find at least one goal that you accomplished, at least one dream that is (or has) come to pass, at least one thing that you hoped for and received, and at least one opportunity that you took advantage of, even in 2020. So many of us take the all or nothing approach to receiving the promises of God. For example, if I don’t lose ALL the weight that I wanted to, I failed or if I don’t pay ALL my debt off, I failed, or if I didn’t land my dream job THIS year, I failed. Look up, look up!! God is doing a NEW THING!! Can’t you see it??? God is positioning you to receives ALL the promises He has for you, but your cooperation is everything. We can’t sit idly by and expect greatness. Oh no, we have to get on the court, put some skin in the game, and claim EVERY promise God has for us. The Bible says, “So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless” (James 2:17 NLT). So, I challenge you, as we begin this new year…2021…to mix your faith WITH your works and watch God do a new thing in you, in your marriage, in your finances, in your health, in your ministry, and in any other area you where you need a “new” thing. Expect God to do the unexpected in your life. It will spring forth, suddenly, and you will realize that God is working ALL things together for your good. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Matthew 16:24-26 (MSG): Then Jesus went to work on his disciples. “Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am. Have you ever been driving and someone in the car with you keeps trying to tell you which way to go, to slow down or speed up, to get over in the next lane or something else? I have! If you’re anything like me, I’ll usually ask, “Will you be quiet and let me drive?” Remember those times when you were a kid going on vacation in the car? Or, maybe, you’re a parent now and remember a trip you were taking your kids on? The number one question was always, “Are we there yet?” So often, we do God the same way. God is leading us in one direction, we insist on going in a different direction. God is asking us to forgive someone, yet we refuse to do it. God has certain people He wants to place in our life, we insist on choosing our own friends and significant others. God desires for us to be healed and whole, we continue to hold on to hurt, bitterness and disappointments. We insist on doing things our way and then we ask God, “Are we there yet?” Who’s in the driver’s seat in your life? The battle always begins and ends in our mind. In Deuteronomy 30:19, we are commanded to, “Choose life!” God sets before you THIS day, life and death. Which will you choose? Choosing life means that you will make a conscious decision to put and keep God in the driver’s seat of your life. If you’re anything like me and you like to be in control, this will take extra effort. Likewise, if you’re used to being passive and letting others be in control, this will be difficult for you too. You will either have to let go of the reins and let God give you directions (and then follow them) or you will have to step up to the plate and get in the game instead of sitting idly by on the sidelines. When God is in the driver’s seat, He will take you places you’ve never even dreamed of going. He’ll take you to healing, He’ll take you to deliverance, He’ll take you to the person of your dreams, He’ll take you to prosperity, He’ll take you to wholeness, He’ll take you to forgiveness, He’ll take you to salvation, and most importantly, He’ll take you to your destiny!!

Hebrews 12: 1-2 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Growing up, I was always very competitive. I must admit…I still am. After all, who doesn’t like to win? I was an athlete, and my strategy was always to hound my coach about “training to win.” All I wanted to do…was win. I would do what he told me to do and then, I would do more…so I could win. That attitude in sports may be alright, but that attitude in life can, actually, set you up for failure. We, in the body of Christ, are to “run with endurance the race that is set before us.” If I’m constantly monitoring your race and your progress, then I am losing focus on my own race. It then becomes impossible for me to win my race. Likewise, if you don’t take advice from your Coach you won’t win your race…that is, your race in life. God is the Author and Finisher of your faith. You have the BEST Coach that anyone could ever have. He is seated at the right hand of the throne of God sending you advice through those He places in your life to help train you and He is on the sideline making calls and cheering you on. Therefore, remember that you are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses who are running the race and winning! So, make a decision, TODAY, to lay aside hurt, bitterness, gossip, unbelief, doubt, and EVERY weight and sin that slows you down or knocks you out of the race. Declare RIGHT NOW, “I am in it to win it!”
